Nellie Ruth Johnson, age 99, of Valley, Alabama passed away on October 17th, 2026, in Alexander City, Alabama. She was born on April 30th, 1927, in Sand Mountain, Alabama.
Nellie is survived by her children, Gary Johnson, (Liz), Ronald Johnson, David Johnson, and Alicia Johnson; her grandchildren, Chase Johnson, Matthew Johnson, (Manda), Brian Johnson, Valarey Miller (Jeremy), Annah Johnson, Brittney Conway, David Watson, and Chandra Blanton; a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; her sister, Bernice Fickey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Buck” Johnson; her parents; her children, Diane Johnson, Danny Johnson, and Donald Johnson; grandson, Joshua Johnson; siblings, Elvis Bethune, R. B. Bethune, Irene Bethune, Tody Bethune, Lec Bethune, and Wilma Dean Baker.
Nellie was a strong-willed lady who was the unmistakable matriarch of her family. She was a member of Three Pines Independent Church in Huguley. She was very talented musically and played piano and sang at several churches. For many years she and her family would travel to different churches to participate in singings. Above all, she loved her family.
Funeral services for Nellie will be held on Thursday, October 22nd, 2026, at 11:00 AM (EDT) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Nellie’s family will receive friends Thursday morning at the funeral home from 10:00 AM (EDT) until the service hour.
