During Monday’s Lanett Council Meeting, Water Superintendent Richard “Bull” Chapman addressed the council regarding the city’s water issues, which have become a top priority following an audit that revealed significant water loss.
The good news is that as od today, we have zero leaks; however, we are facing a problem on the wastewater side. I have evidence that a company is dumping materials into our water, and I can show you what they are doing.
We need to take action, as this will start to incur costs for the city. We will be bringing in companies to help us resolve th.is issue, so we need to address it as soon as possible,” said Chapman.”I would like to report that Mr. Chapman, the mayor, and I are working together and taking action steps regarding our water,” said District 2 Councilperson Krisse Story.
Mayor Jamie Heard agreed to meet with Chapman today to discuss this urgent matter and how to resolve it.
In other Lanett Council news, District 2 Councilperson Krisse Story read a proclamation to Dianne Perry for the upcoming 25th Annual Chambers County Day of Prayer. Following that, the need of trash pick up was discussed in great detail and regarding the need for a clean city.
We have talked about was maybe getting churches to adopt certain streets or if you live on a street in need, you can adopt that street, maybe once onc or twice a week”said Mayor Heard.
I just don’t know why people would just ride down the road and throw their out”, added Heard.
In District 1, Councilperson, Denise Zachery, spoke on the need of a grocery store
Recently, I ran into a group of guys up at the Cherry Valley Shopping Center, who happen to be the owners of the building. They said they were in the process of coming back to do a facelift, which made me very happy. I then asked them about a grocery store.
Story updated thr council on District 2 and the positive things going on in her district.
“We’re finishing up Part 2 of our Summer University. Part one was a great success and today we started on part as it was a great success. I was excited to see the kids there and they’re learning a lot.
There’s a scripture that says, Seek ye the old pathway and when you find it, walk their end. That’s one of my favorite scriptures. I’m thankful to be able to do that with our kids in districts and other districts as well who have continued to come out”, said Story.
In District 3, Councilmember Brad Lynn informed the council that he is planning to do a town hall for District 3 residents in the middle of August.
“Right now it’s scheduled for Thursday night August 13th. I’ll be getting the word out through social media in the upcoming days.
We will meet right here at City Hall to hear your concerns and anything we need to work on”, said Lynn.
Lynn also regognized the Lanett Airport for their completion of the Aviation Training Academy of the FAA-approved training program for fuel safety.
In conclusion, Recreation Director Trent McCants announced the upcoming back to school drive, and Police Chief Denise McCain updated the council on the June Police Academy, which was a full class.
