LANETT – On Monday, the Lanett Council recognized the Lanett Seniors with a proclamation following the Senior Master Games.


“This is a proclamation for the 2026 Senior Master’s Games,” said Councilmember Brandon Bagley during his opening remarks, accompanied by Lanett Senior Center Director Sandra Thornton.

“Whereas the Master’s Games of Alabama is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles among active adults aged 50 and older through social, mental, and physical activities,” read Bagley.

Originating in Oxford, Alabama, in 1989, the Master’s Games provide seniors with the opportunity to maintain an active lifestyle by participating in a variety of events in an Olympic-style atmosphere, all through fun and fellowship. Each year, between 600 and 800 participants from across the state join in the festivities.

Recently, the Lanett Seniors competed in Valley, where several seniors received medals.

The Lanett Seniors will now go on to compete in the state games in Trussville, Alabama, in October.
