Iva Nix Sanders, passed away on June 25, 2026, in Opelika, Alabama, at the age of 68. She was born on February 14, 1958, in Valley, Alabama, and lived a life marked by kindness, generosity, and love for her family and friends.
Iva devoted more than 40 years of her life to the banking industry, where she was respected for her steady work ethic, professionalism, and warm manner. Throughout her career, she built lasting relationships and earned the trust of those who knew and worked with her. Her presence was a source of comfort and reliability, and she carried herself with grace in all that she did.
Outside of work, Iva found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved cooking and sharing meals with those she cared about, and she took great delight in her chicken and snowman collection. She also enjoyed tending to her flowers and spending time reading in the gardens at Callaway Gardens, where she found peace and happiness in the beauty around her. These interests reflected the gentle and thoughtful spirit that defined her life.
Iva will be remembered most for the love she gave so freely to her family. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Kenneth Sanders; her son, Courtney Sanders and his wife, Jessica; her daughter, Stephanie Boyington and her husband, William; and her cherished grandchildren, Kenleigh Sanders, Kate Sanders, Hudson Sanders, Liam Boyington, and CeCe Boyington. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Barbara Sanders; her sisters, Miriam Lewis and her husband, Barry, and Amy Nessmith and her husband, David; her brother, Myron Nix and his wife, Elizabeth; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as her beloved dog, Angie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cerell Nix and Louise “Boots” Nix; her sisters, Tammy Nix, Jane Franks, Susan Crane, and Polly Porter; and her father-in-law, Morris Sanders. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life.
Iva’s legacy is one of devotion, warmth, and unwavering love. She touched the lives of many with her kind heart and generous spirit, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the blessing of knowing her. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will forever cherish the example she set through a life well lived.
Funeral services for Iva will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. (EDT) at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley, Alabama. The Pastor Randall Hamer will be officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Mrs. Iva’s family will receive friends for a visitation on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 1:30 p.m. (EDT) until the service hour at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley, Alabama.
