LAFAYETTE – During Monday’s Chambers County Commission meeting, Commissioner Sam Bradford read a proclamation on behalf of the commissioners to Providence Baptist Church in celebration of its 109th anniversary.
“The Chambers County Commission recognizes Providence Baptist Church for its 109 years of ministry, service, and longstanding history in Chambers County. Therefore, the County Commission declares August 16, 2026, as Providence Baptist Church’s 109th Anniversary Celebration Day in Chambers County,” Bradford stated.
In other Commission news, Chambers County Development Authority Executive Director Chris Busby requested a letter of support for the county’s submission for census tracts for Opportunity Zones 2.0 federal program.
“On behalf of the county, we’re going to nominate three tracts, one in each cities. As part of the application process, we would just request from all of our governing bodies a support letter. This letter does not contain any financial or other obligations by the county. It just shows that they support Chambers County having an opportunity zone track in the federal database.
The Commission unanimously approved in support of the request from Busby. In addition, the Commission approved the following Resolutions:
Approval of budget amendments to the 105 Fund to transfer $27,000 to the Gasoline Fund for the Safe Streets and Roads Fund.
To authorize payment to Integra Community Mental Health System from opioid settlement funds for Project Completion.
County Attorney Skip McCoy announced the contract extension of County Manager Regina Chambers.
“I am delighted to state that Regina Chambers, whose contract as county manager expires on September 30th of this year, has agreed to a two-year extension of her contract to September 30th of 2028.
The Commissioners voted unanimously in support of the extension.
