Carol Woods, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, devoted Christian, and community leader, died on October 28, 2026, at her residence in West Point/Pine Mountain, Georgia. She was 79. Born on November 29, 1946, in Hollywood, Florida, she lived a life marked by love of family and friends, and she touched the lives of many through her family, friendships, and years of service.
Carol shared 57 years of marriage with her husband, Jim Woods. Together, they built a strong and loving family that remained at the center of her life. She is survived by her daughters, Jean Rowe Luciani and her husband Gene, and Jodi Woods and her partner David Vallin. Carol also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Ellie Minix and her husband Manden, and Mia Tribble and her husband Mason. Her family treasures their memories of her fun-loving and caring spirit that brightened every room and lifted everyone’s mood.
Her life extended well beyond her home, as she gave generously of her time and energy to the community around her. Carol was a past president of the Chipley Woman’s Club and the Union Community. She was also a former member of the Harris 100 and a former board member of the Friends of the Harris County Library. In addition, she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She and Jim were also recognized as the “Family of the Year” by Harris Family Connections, an honor that spoke to their hard work and devotion to the community.
Those who knew Carol say she brought warmth and fun to every room she entered. She loved spending time with her friends and family. Carol also cared deeply about music. She played piano for years for her church, played guitar at weddings, and sang in a church choir. Friends say she was always the first one to get up and dance at any event. Carol was a season-ticket holding Georgia Bulldogs fan and truly loved playing bridge. She enjoyed teaching and numerous students benefitted from her Spanish classes, tutoring, swim lessons, and over twenty years of directing a children’s choir at church.
Carol Woods will be remembered for the way she lived, with love for her family, friends, and community. Her legacy lives on in the family she loved, the friendships she nurtured, and the many organizations and communities she strengthened through her service.
A memorial service to honor Carol’s life will be held on Friday, November 13 at 11a.m. (EDT), at Union Baptist Church in West Point, Georgia with a short reception to follow.
Her family requests that, to honor Carol’s wishes, donations be made to the Chipley Woman’s Club at P.O. Box 35, Pine Mountain, GA 31822 in lieu of flowers.
