On 7/16/2025, at approximately 10:41 p.m., Opelika Police responded to the 3000 Block of Wymond Drive for a domestic violence call. Upon arrival, Officers encountered a 32-year-old male who was irate and armed with a firearm. The subject barricaded himself in the residence with a female and a 2-year-old child. Due to the developing situation, Opelika Crisis Negotiators and the Lee County SWAT Team were dispatched to the residence.

The female was able to safely leave the residence however, the child remained with the subject. Negotiations continued, but the subject’s actions led to an officer-involved shooting. The male subject was pronounced deceased at the scene. Both the female and the child were uninjured.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) was called in to investigate. All evidence and videos have been collected by SBI for their investigation. Once they have completed a full and thorough investigation, the results will be turned over to the Lee County District.

Attorney’s Office who will present the findings to a Lee County Grand Jury.
