Lee County Woman Indicted on Charges of Homicide by Vehicle and Criminally Negligent Homicide in 2025 Wreck that calimed the Life of Gigi’s Cupcakes Co-Owner

AUBURN, Ala. — A school bus driver has been indicted in connection with a November 2025 crash that killed a 42-year-old woman, according to the Auburn Police Department.

The crash occurred Nov. 18, 2025  near the 1000 block of East University Drive and involved a school bus and a passenger vehicle. Jennifer Cooper, a mother of two and co-owner of Gigi’s Cupcakes in Opelika,s uccumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.

Following an investigation by the Auburn Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Unit, a Lee County grand jury indicted the bus driver, Theresa McCloud, 75, on charges of homicide by vehicle and criminally negligent homicide.

McCloud was arrested Sept. 3 on the indictments and taken to the Lee County Jail, where she was being held on a $12,000 bond.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
