The Southern Union State Community College (SUSCC) Foundation is proud to announce the creation of the Dr. Silvia Scaife Career Pathways Scholarship, established to honor a creative, dedicated, and passionate educator whose life’s work has centered on helping students discover their potential and pursue meaningful career paths.

Dr. Scaife, Director of Career Technical Education with Auburn City Schools, has devoted her career to guiding students and their families as they navigate postsecondary opportunities aligned with their interests, talents, and goals. A steadfast advocate for career exploration, Dr. Scaife believes deeply in the potential of every student. She works tirelessly to ensure students understand the many pathways to success—whether through technical education, workforce credentials, or transfer opportunities—and consistently encourages them to pursue affordable, high-quality education at Southern Union State Community College.

“This scholarship endowment serves as a lasting tribute to Dr. Scaife’s enthusiasm, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the students and families she has impacted throughout her career,” commented Gretchen VanValkenburg, Executive Director of Advancement and Community Relations at SUSCC.

VanValkenburg added that to honor this extraordinary combination of excellence and humanity, anonymous donors have established a permanent endowed scholarship to carry Scaife’s legacy forward for generations to come. The Scholarship will support graduates of Auburn City Schools who enroll at Southern Union State Community College, with preference given to students pursuing career technical or workforce-aligned programs.

“She leads with care. She teaches with compassion. She mentors, coaches, and guides with a genuine love for her students and colleagues. She models what it means to believe in others—often before they believe in themselves,” said a donor about Scaife.
