OPELIKA, Ala. – The City of Opelika is pleased to announce that Madison Bush has joined the Opelika Economic Development team as Project Manager for Talent Attraction and Business Retention & Expansion.
In this role, Bush will focus on identifying, attracting, and developing talent to support the workforce needs of Opelika’s growing base of advanced manufacturing and innovative industries. Her work will emphasize strengthening relationships with existing employers, supporting business retention and expansion efforts, and enhancing workforce pipelines through strategic partnerships.
A key component of her role will include collaboration with Southern Union State Community College and the continued expansion of Opelika’s Career Skills Program, which helps transitioning military members connect with local employment opportunities.
“We are very fortunate to have Ms. Bush join our team,” said John Sweatman, Director of Opelika Economic Development. “Having her and Grace Dickerson, our other Workforce Project Manager, working together under our newly launched POW-R Workforce Initiative, will allow us to deliver much-needed workforce support to all businesses located in Opelika, regardless of size or sector.”
Mayor Eddie Smith also welcomed Bush to the team, highlighting the importance of workforce development to Opelika’s continued success.

Bush is originally from Valley, Alabama, and is a graduate of the University of Alabama, where she earned a degree in General Business. Prior to joining Opelika Economic Development, she served as a Recruitment Associate for Retail Strategies in Birmingham, Alabama, where she gained valuable experience and built economic development relationships across the country.
