August 19, 1938 ~ August 8, 2026 (age 87)

Mary Alice Barnes, age 87, of Opelika, Alabama, passed away on August 8, 2026, in the same city where she was born on August 19, 1938. She was a loving and kind woman whose life was marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and the simple joys that brought her happiness each day.

Mary Alice was born in Opelika to Alton Eastridge and Ilene Eastridge. She grew up surrounded by family and carried those early values of love, strength, and kindness throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rommie Barnes; her parents; her brother, Richard Eastridge and his wife Jane; her sister, Clara Moncus and her husband Boyd; her daughter, Brenda Barnes; and her grandchild, Tanna Jarrell. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life.

 She is survived by her sons, Rickie (Cynthia) Barnes, Jerry (Diane) Barnes, and Ronald Barnes; her daughter, Dianne (Jamie) Barnes Brewer; her sister, Martha (Louie) Hall; and her companion, Michael Wallace. She also leaves behind a large and loving family of grandchildren, Jeremy (Dilcu) Barnes, Kelly (Kennon) Black, Lisa Barnes, Hannah (Shawn) Harris, Jaden (Kelly) Barnes, Sean (Erin) McGuire, Jameson McGuire, Colin Peters, Corey Hill, and Colby Hill. In addition, she is survived by thirteen great-grandchildren, seventeen great-great-grandchildren, a special friend Patsy Gilmore and numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory always.

Mary Alice loved attending church, and her faith was an important part of her life. She found comfort and joy in reading, and she especially enjoyed eating her favorite fried pies. These small pleasures reflected the warmth and contentment she carried with her. She also treasured the time she spent with family and friends, and she deeply valued the companionship and love they shared with her over the years.

Those who knew Mary Alice will remember her as a loving and kind woman who cared deeply for others. She had a gentle spirit and a heart that welcomed those around her. Her presence brought comfort, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

Mary Alice Barnes leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and kindness that will not be forgotten. Her life was a testament to the love she gave so freely, and her family will forever hold dear the many memories they shared with her.

Funeral services for Mary will be held on Thursday, August 13th, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. (EDT) at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley, Alabama. Pastor Steve Langley will be officiating. Interment will follow at Johnson Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Ms. Mary’s family will receive friends for a visitation on Wednesday evening, August 12th, 2026, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. (EDT) at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley, Alabama.
