On May 5th & 6th, 2026, the Lee County Water Festival brought science, conservation, and hands-on fun together for 1,367 fourth-grade students from across Lee County!

Hosted by stormwater professionals and volunteers from the City of Opelika, City of Auburn, Auburn University, City of Smiths Station, and Lee County, this annual event helps students discover the importance of protecting our water resources through exciting, interactive activities.

Students rotated through three engaging learning stations:

– Creating colorful Water Cycle Bracelets

– Exploring Natural Water Filtration

– Building their own Edible Aquifers

To top it all off, students enjoyed the always-popular Live Fish Show, where they met native fish species and learned more about Alabama’s waterways and ecosystems.

Events like the Lee County Water Festival inspire the next generation to become environmental stewards while showing that science and conservation can be FUN.

“A huge Thank You to all the volunteers, educators, and partners who made this incredible event possible”, said the City of Opelika in a social media post.
