April 11, 1943 ~ September 28, 2026 (age 83)

Linda Mitchum Beckum, 83, of Lanett, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 28, 2026.

She was born April 11, 1943, and was a lifelong resident of Lanett. Linda was a woman of deep Christian faith, and her love for the Lord guided every season of her life. She was a faithful member of the Lanett Church of the Nazarene.

She loved gospel music, especially Guy Penrod and the Gaither Vocal Band. She enjoyed playing Canasta and would happily play just about any game, but nothing made her happier than spending time with her family and friends.

Her two sons were her greatest pride and joy. Linda knew from an early age that she wanted to be a teacher, and she followed that calling for many years. She taught sixth grade at South Elementary School, and she had a passion for teaching and a genuine love for her students. She later served as principal of Lanett Junior High School and Central Elementary School, where she continued to shape young lives in her hometown.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas Mitchumand Sara Mitchum Brady.

She is survived by her sons, Sammy Beckum (Bridget Wingo) and Cam Beckum (Edie Couch), and their father, Paul Beckum as well as Linda’s brother, Joel Mitchum (Gradene), who donated a kidney to her years ago. She always credited his sacrifice for all the years she had after her transplant. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Cameron Beckum, Blake Beckum, Gabe Beckum and Goddaughter Olivia Bond (Ryan), and her dear cousins Diane Patterson Tingle (Eddie), Brenda Huguley and Carolyn Crutchfield.

In her final years, Linda was so thankful for the companionship she found with her friend John Walters. Linda was loved by so many lifelong friends who filled her life with laughter and good times.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. (EDT), at Lanett Church of the Nazarene, 1306 S. Jennings Ave., Lanett, Alabama.

A Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 a.m. (EDT), with Pastor Harold Henson officiating.

Graveside burial will follow at Harmony Gardens (formerly Resthaven), 6415 Veterans Memorial Parkway, Lanett.
