Lanett PD provides update on S. 5th Street Shooting

Lanett Police Chief Denise McCain reports that the investigation into the shooting that occurred on June 23, 2026, in the 1400 block of South 5th Street remains ongoing.

Preliminary findings indicate that the incident stemmed from a verbal altercation between homeowner Erick Woody and Brandon Ransom. During the course of the altercation, Mr. Woody discharged a firearm, striking Mr. Ransom.

Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and provided medical treatment before transporting Mr. Ransom for further treatment. His current condition is not being released at this time.

Investigators continue to gather evidence and conduct interviews to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. At this stage of the investigation, no additional details are being released.

Chief McCain report that this remains an active investigation, and all individuals involved are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
