LANETT, Ala. — The Lanett City Council voted Monday to amend the city’s established water and sewer rates.

Under the approved changes, the minimum residential water rate will increase to $18.81. Residential customers will pay $7.26 per 1,000 gallons for usage exceeding 2,000 gallons.

The minimum commercial water rate will be $30.45, with a charge of $10.89 per 1,000 gallons for usage exceeding 2,000 gallons.

The council also approved new residential and commercial sewer rates. The minimum residential sewer rate will be $13.50, with an additional charge of $2.97 per 1,000 gallons for usage exceeding 2,000 gallons.

The minimum commercial sewer rate will be $16.20, with a charge of $8.10 per 1,000 gallons for usage exceeding 2,000 gallons.

According to the city, the wholesale cost of providing water services has increased, requiring an adjustment to the rates. The city said the changes are in the best interest of Lanett and its citizens and will help the water systems operate in a cost-efficient manner.

The new rates are expected to take effect in October.
