OPELIKA, AL (April 16, 2026) — Joel Alvarado, Director of Workforce & Entrepreneurship at the Opelika Chamber of Commerce, has successfully completed the 2025-26 Fellowship for Talent Development, a national program led by the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) Foundation.

The six-month fellowship equips chamber professionals with the tools and strategies needed to support ongoing workforce efforts in the region. Participants gain a deeper understanding of their regional talent ecosystems and develop actionable solutions in collaboration with community partners to support economic growth.

“We are proud to recognize this exceptional group of chamber leaders for completing the Fellowship for Talent Development,” said ACCE President & CEO Sheree Anne Kelly. “Through their work, they have moved beyond learning to action, developing strategies that address workforce challenges and drive long-term economic prosperity in their communities.”

As part of the program, Alvarado designed a regional action plan focused on quality childcare in Lee County, AL. The project outlines strategies to increase awareness among childcare providers about Alabama’s Quality STARS program, helping local providers access available state funding to enhance quality, with a focus on measurable impact through both qualitative and quantitative indicators.

“I am so fortunate to have been selected to participate in this fellowship. The sessions throughout were all relevant to my work locally. However, the structure and guidance from ACCE on creating our regional action plan stand out to me. I am now armed with a strategic plan to make a difference in my community. I couldn’t have asked for a better outcome,” said Joel Alvarado, Director of Workforce & Entrepreneurship.

Through the program, Fellows collaborate with peers from across the country, exchange best practices, and explore innovative approaches to workforce development. Fellows leave better positioned to help their communities adapt to evolving workforce demands and build stronger, more resilient economies.

The Fellowship for Talent Development is part of the ACCE Foundation’s commitment to advancing economic mobility and strengthening the capacity of chambers of commerce to lead in talent and workforce initiatives.
