Elizabeth “Liz” Leeper Schwartz, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and compassionate nurse, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026.
Born on August 5, 1950, in Warwick, New York, Elizabeth was the cherished daughter of Viola and Vincent W. Leeper, who predeceased her.
After becoming a registered nurse in 1970, Liz embarked on a remarkable career that spanned over four decades. She began her journey at Hortons Hospital. Her passion for pediatric nursing shone brightly as she dedicated over ten years to caring for children, bringing hope and healing to families in their times of need. In her later years, Liz served at the Mid-Hudson Psychiatric Center in New Hampton, New York, for 14 years. Even after retiring, her devotion to service continued as she worked as a school nurse for three years, ensuring the well-being of students and staff alike.
As a faithful member of the Christian community, she lived her beliefs through her actions, offering love and support to all who crossed her path. Her unwavering faith was a source of strength and comfort to her family and friends.
Her beloved husband of 36 years, Thomas Schwartz, survives Liz. She is also survived by her daughter, Sarah Elizabeth McKinney, and her son-in-law, Jacob. Her granddaughter, Mckenzie Elizabeth McKinney, was a source of immense joy and pride for Liz, and her love for her will endure forever. Liz is also survived by her sister, Kathryn Dorr, and brother-in-law, John. Her nephews, Jonathan and his wife Rachel, Andrew and his wife Jennifer, and Timothy and his wife Kellie, along with their families, will fondly remember her as a beloved aunt who always had a warm smile and an open heart. Among the many who will miss Liz is her devoted Dachshund, Willow, who rarely left her side and brought her comfort through every season of life.
Elizabeth’s life was a beautiful testament to love, service, and faith. Her strong spirit and generous heart will be dearly missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all those she touched. May she rest in eternal peace, embraced by the divine love she so freely shared with the world.
