On September 17, 2026, Mr. Donald Earl McCain Jr. always known as Donnie passed away peacefully at home after a long battle of stomach cancer.
Mr. McCain was born April 18, 1961, at George H. Lanier Hospital in Valley, Alabama. His parents were Donald Earl McCain and Mary Jane McCain of Valley both now deceased.
Also preceding him in death was his brother Phillip Neal McCain of Opelika, his paternal grandparents Early Levi McCain and Zola Inez McCain of Sylacauga, Alabama and his maternal grandparents Reverend J. C. Kelley and Gertrude Kelley of Valley, AL His niece Leah McCain of Valley, AL. His Aunt and Uncles Buck and Eloise Mizzell of Birmingham, AL, Thomas and Helen Stewart of Birmingham, AL, Doyal McCain of Ringold, GA, Kenneth Abernathy of Sylacauga, AL, Hollis Kelley of Valley, AL, Milford and Margaret Elliot of Childersburg, AL, Oscar and Gertrude Lashley of West Point, GA, and Vera Kelley of West Point, GA. His cousins Donald Stewart of Birmingham, AL, Steven Stewart of Birmingham, and Tina McCain of Seattle, Washington.
Mr. McCain is survived by his brother Tim McCain (Cherie) of Valley, AL, his nephew Ruslan McCain (Jessica) of Braselton, GA, his sister in law Tinker McCain of Opelika, AL, his aunts Pat McCain of Chattanooga, TN, and Donna Kelley of Valley, AL. His cousins Terry Mizzell (Linda) of Birmingham, AL, Mark Mizzell (Jamie) of Birmingham, Al, Chris Mizzell (Carol) of Birmingham, Kathy Wilson of Jasper, AL, Carol Jacobs (Joe) of Tarrant, AL, Tammy Pardee of Locust Grove, GA, Tracey McCain of Seattle, Washington, Hollis Kelley, Jr (Eva) of Franklin, GA, Chris Kelley of Valley, AL.
Mr. McCain was a 1979 graduate of Valley High School where he was in the Honor Society, an Eagle Scout, and he received the Junior Achievement Chattahoochee-Lee 1979 outstanding Young Businessman of the Year. His brother Tim had won the previous year.
In December 1981 he earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama double majoring in Broadcast Film Communications and Business management. Prior to entering college Mr. McCain was awarded a Louise and Henry Poelnitz Johnston Scholarship. In August 1993 he earned his master’s degree in business management from Troy State University.
Previous jobs Mr. McCain has worked for were McDonald’s, WGXA-TV in Macon, GA, Biscuit House products, Hancock Fabrics, West Point Pepperell Fairfax Fabrication and Martex Warehouse, Variety Wholesale, Uni-cor, Daedong Hilex and Seoyeon.
Mr. McCain was a lifelong fan of the Atlanta Braves, but most especially a fan of the University of Alabama Crimson Tide Footbal9l Team. He loved going to the games with his uncle Hollis Kelley.
Mr. McCain was an avid reader of books. His favorites were ones written by John Jake, John Grisham, and Nicholas Sparks. He loved watching ESPN, SEC Network, and movies on Turner Classic Movies. Favorites were any with John Wayne or Jimmy Stewart in them.
Mr. McCain loved his church Fairview Baptist Church in Valley, AL, where he went after moving back to Valley, AL area in 2021.
Funeral services for Mr. McCain will be held on Sunday, September 20th, 2026, at 2:30 PM (EDT) at the Fairview Baptist Church in Valley, Alabama. Interment will follow in Fairfax Cemetery. Pastor Carl Benedict will officiate. Mr. McCain’s family will receive friends for visitation Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM (EDT) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.
