Mr. David S. Bailey of Huguley passed away Friday September 11, 2026. A homegoing celebration will be held on Thursday, September 17th, 2026, at 2:00 PM (EST) at Calvary Baptist Church in Huguley, with the Rev. Rusty Letson (brother-in-law) officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and family one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mr. Bailey is survived by his children: sons Rodney (Sherry) Bishop of Lanett and Damon (April) Bailey of Huguley; daughter Casey (Joe Ricky) Weldon of Lanett; and son-in-law Allan Duvall of Beulah, grandchildren Jason (Veronica), Joshua (Ashley), Roxie (Nick), Savannah (Wil), A.J., Kaley (Collin), Baylee (Jackson), River and Ashton and great-grandchildren Lyric, Xander and Rynlee and brother Don (Robin) Bailey.
David was born in Langdale, Alabama, on February 26, 1956. He grew up in Fairfax. While living in Shawmut, he married the love of his life, Faye, and moved to Huguley in 1975, where he lived until his death.
He enjoyed working. During his 41 years of work, he spent two years at Fairfax Mill, 26 years at Ampex Corporation, one year at OSI Sealants, one year at Sims Machinery, and 11 years as a power plant construction worker. He also worked with Walker & Walker Construction, Neill’s Trailer Repair, and Southern Coaches during his time off.
He started attending Calvary Baptist Church in 1978. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior on July 28, 1991, and joined Calvary Baptist Church, where he remained until his death. God’s calling for Mr. Bailey was to maintain God’s house and grounds – Calvary here on earth – and to help anyone he could. All he ever asked of anyone was to help someone else.
Four men whom God placed in David’s life to teach him how to live life and love others through God’s love were Ethridge Overton, William Moore, Ralph Howell, and Gerald Sykes – God-loving, humble men.
He cherished and enjoyed life with his wife of 41 years, four children and their spouses, nine grandchildren and their spouses, and 3 great-grandchildren, as well as his brother- and sisters-in-law, church family, and friends who were like brothers, David Buford Tidwell, Rodger Adams and Lamar Walden.
Other enjoyments included their creek house in Double Springs, Alabama, gospel and Sacred Harp singings, and Alabama football.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Overton Bailey; daughter, Malinda Duvall; parents, James and Dorothy Bailey; and brother, Phillip Bailey.
In lieu of flowers, David and his family request that everyone give to Calvary Baptist Church, a ministry of their choice, or do something for someone else.
