On Friday, June 12, 2026, at approximately 9:00 a.m., deputies and Lanett EMS were dispatched to a residence on County Road 187 in the Cusseta area in response to a report of a 2-year-old female child who was not breathing.
Upon arrival, deputies provided first aid until paramedics arrived on the scene. The child was transported by Lanett EMS to East Alabama Medical Center Lanier, where she was pronounced deceased.
The body has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for an autopsy. This case is currently under investigation by the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, the Fifth Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, and the Chambers County Coroner’s Office.
The name of the child will be released at a later time.
