LAFAYETTE- During Monday’s Chambers County Commission meeting, County Engineer Josh Harvill recognized Mike Meadows and Sam Copeland for their careers and service to Chambers County.

“Mr. Mike Meadows started part-time with the county in the summer of 1993. He began a full-time career at the highway department on September 30th, 1996, and in May 2014, he became the superintendent of operations for the highway department, giving him 12 years of experience leading the highway department.

Mr. Sam Copeland started with the county on May 22nd, 2008, and in April of 2013, after just.
Five years ago, he became the assistant operations superintendent for the highway department, serving in that position for over 13 years.

To say the least, they will leave behind some very big shoes to fill within our department. They supported us through good and bad and never once said no to any challenge that we presented to them. They confidently carried a unified voice through the department every workday, no matter what I asked them to do, and no matter how big a challenge. Never once have I ever doubted their support and commitment to the department, me, and to the commission; they have provided a steady calm during any storm we faced. They’ve led by example and embraced a positive attitude and leadership mindset.

They are special men, and I’m a better leader and a better person by having them in my life. Mike and Sam will be missed by us, and most specifically by me. They left a mark on me, and everyone in this department”, said Harvill.

Afterward, the room erupted into applause for Mike Meadows, for 32 years, and Sam Copeland, for 18 years of service.

“Thank you for your loyalty and commitment to the Chambers County Highway Department.
Your career has been defined by a deep dedication to your work and genuine care for the team you led.
Thank you for your years of tireless work ethic, integrity, and selfless dedication. We wish you a long and happy well-deserved retirement”, added Harvill.

Meadows and Copeland’s official retirement date is May 28th, 2026.
