Jerry Templeton, a beloved Christian man known for his friendly nature, intelligence, and kindness, died on July 30, 2026, at his residence in Valley, Alabama. He was 82 years old.
Born on March 3, 1944, in Lee County, Alabama, Jerry lived a life marked by faith, family, and steady devotion to the people and places he loved. He was a man of God and a member of Ridge Road Baptist Church, where his Christian faith remained an important part of his life. Those who knew him remember a man who carried himself with warmth and sincerity, and who made a lasting impression through his gentle spirit and dependable presence.
Jerry spent many years working for M.P. Sykes, where he built a reputation for hard work and loyalty. His life reflected the values of perseverance and commitment, and he was respected by those who had the privilege of knowing him both personally and professionally. Outside of work, he found joy in simple pleasures and lifelong interests that brought him comfort and happiness.
He was a big University of Alabama fan and followed the team with enthusiasm. He also loved watching Gunsmoke and other westerns, enjoying the familiar stories and characters that remained a favorite part of his routine. These interests were part of the personality that family and friends cherished, and they added to the picture of a man who appreciated tradition, loyalty, and the familiar rhythms of life.
Jerry is survived by his children, Anita Bailey, Deborah Akins, Glenn Templeton, and Larry Hurley and his wife, Paula. He also leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews who will carry forward his memory. His family was an important part of his life, and his legacy will continue through the generations who knew his love and example.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Luann Templeton, and by his children, Kim Templeton, Becky Earles, Wendell Kellum, Tina Pugh, and Dinky Roberts. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life, and now they are reunited in eternal rest.
Jerry Templeton will be remembered as a faithful man, a devoted family member, and a steady presence in the lives of those around him. His life was one of quiet strength, Christian faith, and enduring love, and his memory will remain a blessing to all who knew him.
A memorial service for Jerry will be held on Tuesday, August 11th, 2026, at 1:00 PM (Central Time) at Ridge Road Baptist Church in Opelika, AL. The Reverend Stephen McClain and Mr. Darrell Shelton will officiate.
