Rebecca “Becky” Burdette, 79, of Lanett, Alabama, passed away on April 22, 2026, at Wellstar West Georgia Hospice in LaGrange, Georgia, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and devotion that touched generations of family, students, and friends.
Born on October 11, 1946, in Langdale, Alabama, Becky lived a life marked by kindness, intelligence, and steady grace. She was known to those who loved her as Becky, and she carried herself with the warmth and strength of a true matriarch. Her life was centered on family, faith, and service to others, and she was especially cherished as a loving MeeMee whose grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a special place in her heart.
Becky devoted 30 years of her life to teaching, where she made a lasting difference in the lives of countless children. She loved children deeply, and her work reflected her patience, compassion, and commitment to helping young people learn and grow. Her influence extended far beyond the classroom, as she was remembered not only as an educator, but also as a mentor, encourager, and steady presence in the lives of many.
She was a faithful charter member of Fairview Baptist Church and lived her Christian faith in a quiet but powerful way. Her life was a reflection of the values she held dear, and she was admired for the love she gave so freely to others. Becky was the kind of person who made people feel welcome, valued, and cared for, and her presence brought comfort and strength to those around her.
Family was at the center of Becky’s world. She is survived by her son, Todd Burdette and his wife, Tressie; her granddaughters, Chassity Burdette and Chelsey Crawford and her husband, Adrian; and her great-grandchildren, JanaCate Sanders, Alex and Sophia Van Meter, Presley Sanders, Mac Crawford, Rollins Crawford, and Riley Jean Crawford. She is also survived by her brothers, LeRoy Abney and his wife, Nancy, and Steve Abney and his wife, Joann. Each of them shared in the love and memories that Becky built throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, McCoy Burdette, and by her parents, S. L. and Olene Abney. In a poignant and remarkable detail, Becky passed away on the exact same date as her husband, 14 years apart, a connection that will be remembered with deep tenderness by those who knew and loved them both.
Becky’s life was one of devotion, wisdom, and unwavering care. She will be remembered as loving, intelligent, and kind, a woman whose influence reached across her family and community. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her, and her legacy will continue through the generations she loved so dearly.
