PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WTVM) – Chattahoochee Valley Community College received $612,455 in workforce development grants from the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees.

The college received five separate grants. More than $200,000 will go toward the practical nursing program. Another $180,000 will go toward workforce education in supply chain, logistics and transportation. More than $48,000 will go toward lab equipment in the medical laboratory technology program. The college also received two grants worth $85,000 each for a career coordinator and a success coach to guide students through school and after graduation.

Practical Nursing Department Chair Dr. Vernissa Sparks said part of the $200,000 going toward her program will fund a virtual reality simulator for students to practice their skills.

“One of the big purchases that we are going to have with that grant is going to be the virtual reality equipment and I am very excited for that. That’s going to really put our students in the real world,” Sparks said.
