Tucker Sides had an impressive performance, collecting three hits in three at-bats as the Springwood Varsity Wildcats defeated the Trinity Christian Varsity Eagles 6-2 on Friday. Sides recorded a single in the first inning, another single in the third inning, and a third single in the fifth inning.

The Wildcats struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Sides singled, driving in three runs. They extended their lead in the bottom of the third when Sides hit a single to left field, and an error by the Eagles allowed one more run to score.

Luke Moon started as the pitcher for the Wildcats, allowing four hits and two runs (one earned) over five innings while striking out two and walking four. For the Eagles, Roy Washburn took the mound and surrendered six hits and six runs (three earned) in five and one-third innings, striking out five and walking five. Tristan Hill provided two innings of scoreless relief for the Wildcats, allowing no hits while striking out three and walking one.

   

Wildcats Skipper Allen Watkins on what stood out for Springwood.

“I think that the fourth inning was a really big inning for us. We were in a 3-2 game, and we kind of got the bats going in the fourth inning, and we were able to capitalize on that”, said Watkins.

Tucker Sides also stole four bases during the game, contributing to the Wildcats’ total of seven stolen bases. The Wildcats successfully turned two double plays throughout the match.

“This is a loose group, and I am really proud of just how we are playing the game. While we are having fun, we are still playing the game the right way”, added Watkins.

 

As for Trinity Christian, Fife Conway led the Eagles with one run batted in, finishing the game with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. He also stole two bases, while the Eagles collectively stole four bases and turned one double play.

Next up for the Springwood Varsity Wildcats is a game at Southern Prep Academy on Monday.
