December 5, 1943 ~ May 20, 2025 (age 81)

Sandra Alexander, affectionately known as Sandra by her loved ones and friends, passed away peacefully at her home in Huguley, Alabama, on May 20, 2025, at the age of 81, surrounded by her family. Born on December 5, 1943, in West Point, Georgia, she would go on to share 61 beautiful years of marriage with her devoted husband, Raymond Alexander.

Sandra’s memory will be cherished by her three children: Sandy Kight, Rodney Alexander (Beth), and Jody Alexander. She was a beloved grandmother to Christopher Alexander (Shelley), Amber Godin (Jerimiah), Justin Alexander (Ashley), Sarah Alexander, and Luke Kight, and a doting great-grandmother to nine great-grandchildren who brought immense joy into her life. Her loving sister, Celia Pollard, and brother, James Rutledge, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, will hold her dear in their hearts. Her special friend, Priscilla Hollaway, and her cherished fur baby, Lemon, will also feel the absence of Sandra’s gentle presence.

Sandra was greeted in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lemuel Rutledge, and her siblings, Chesley Rutledge, Sylvia Blatt, Nancy Howard, Margaret Walker, and Ronnie Rutledge.

For over five decades, Sandra graced her community with her skills as a dedicated beautician. She was also a proud co-founder and active member of Emmanuel Missionary Church for the Hearing and Deaf, alongside her husband. For 27 years, she served her church community faithfully, expressing her faith and sharing the beauty of hymns through sign language for the benefit of the hearing-impaired.

An eager outdoorswoman, Sandra reveled in the simplicity of camping and fishing, finding peace and gratification in nature’s embrace. Her love for flora was evident in the meticulous care she gave to her flower garden—a testament to her nurturing spirit. However, her greatest passion was the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose lives were greatly enriched by her love.

Sandra will be remembered as a loving, kind, and faith-filled woman. Hers was a life well-lived, marked by the profound love she showed to her family, her unyielding service to her church, and the gentle kindness she bestowed upon everyone around her. Her legacy will continue to flourish through the lives of those she touched, and Sandra Alexander’s memory will forever be a source of love and faithfulness.

Funeral services for Sandra will be held on Saturday, May 24th, 2025, at 11:00 AM (EDT) at the Emmanuel Missionary Church for the Deaf and Hearing in Lanett, Alabama. Pastors Ron Williams and Darren White will officiate. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.
