Raymond Lewis Stewart, a beacon of unwavering kindness and love, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026, in Opelika, AL, just shy of his 79th birthday. Born on January 21, 1947, in the tranquil town of Franklin, NC, Raymond lived a fulfilling life characterized by hard work, passion for the outdoors, and an immeasurable devotion to his family.

Raymond, fondly known and addressed by his given name, carved a legacy of love and dedication that is sure to live on through the lives of those he touched. He tirelessly built a life alongside his beloved wife, Sandra Stewart, with whom he created countless cherished memories. His legacy of love continues through his caring daughter, Carolyn Dennis, his devoted sons, Randel Stewart and Dale (Stacey) Colley, and the joys of his life, his grandchildren, who had the privilege of knowing him as a loving grandfather. Raymond also leaves behind his caring sister, Elizabeth Waters, and his brother, Danny (Betty) Stewart, who will hold dear the memory of their brother’s boundless affection and gentle soul.

Heaven has now welcomed Raymond into the loving embrace of those who preceded him in death: his parents, Lawrence and Wilma Stewart; his siblings, Patricia Ashford, Margaret Ward, David Stewart, Jimmy Stewart, and Jackie Stewart, all of whom he continued to hold in his heart with unwavering love and fond recollections.

A man of the earth and its many wonders, Raymond was an avid hunter and fisherman. Through his interests, he taught respect for nature to his children and all who accompanied him on his many outdoor adventures. His incredible work ethic was not just a trait but a cornerstone of the life he built. A friend to all creatures, Raymond’s gentle nature was perhaps most evident in his love for his animals, which he treated with the same kindness and care he extended to all living beings.

Raymond’s lasting impact is underscored by words that only begin to capture his essence – loving and kind. His heart knew no bounds, and his generosity of spirit enriched the lives of everyone he encountered. Those who had the honor of crossing paths with Raymond were invariably met with his unwavering positive outlook and compassionate demeanor.

As we bid farewell to Raymond Lewis Stewart, we are reminded that while he may have left our physical world, his spirit remains a guiding light in our hearts. His was a life well-lived, and the richness of his memory will continue to inspire love, kindness, and perseverance in all of us.
