Opelika, Ala. – Opelika Power Services and Energy Southeast are pleased to announce the local winners of the 2026 AMEA Scholarship.
Each year, Energy Southeast awards high school seniors a $2,500 scholarship. To be eligible for the Energy Southeast scholarships, a student’s family must receive electric service from Opelika Power Services, and the student must attend an Alabama college/university or vocational school.
This year’s Opelika Power Services/Energy Southeast Academic Scholarship Program recipients from Opelika’s service area include:
William Grant Blythe, Lee-Scott Academy
Ta’Laja Da’Mya Chambers, Opelika High School
Antione Toriano Harvis, Opelika High School
Reginald Braedyn Williams, Opelika High School
Mayor Eddie Smith said, “Investing in our students is one of the most meaningful ways we can invest in the future of Opelika. These outstanding young men and women have worked hard to earn this recognition, and we are proud to support them as they take the next step in their education and careers.”
Energy Southeast will give out a total of $97,500 among the 39 winners this year. Energy Southeast received a total of 121 scholarship applications in the 2025 program. Since 1992, Energy Southeast and its members have provided over $3.5 million in scholarships to the graduating high school seniors who receive their electric service from Energy Southeast members.
Opelika Power Service Director Brent Poteet added, “We are grateful for our continued partnership with Energy Southeast and the opportunities it creates for our students. Programs like this not only reward academic excellence but also strengthen our community by helping develop the next generation of leaders.”
Energy Southeast, a joint action agency formed in 1981, is the wholesale power provider for 11 public power utilities in Alabama, which serve approximately 350,000 customers in the cities of Alexander City, Dothan, Fairhope, Foley, LaFayette, Lanett, Luverne, Opelika, Piedmont, Sylacauga and Tuskegee.
