July 31, 1949 ~ October 18, 2025 (age 76)
Tim Bailey, 76, left this world peacefully on October 18, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at UAB in Birmingham, AL.
Tim was born on July 31, 1949, in Opelika, AL, the son of Lewis Timothy Bailey, Sr., and Marcha Marie Taylor Bailey. He grew up in the Valley area, where he developed a strong work ethic and a deep love for his friends and family. He met his high school sweetheart, Marie, while a student at Valley High, and was welcomed with open arms by his future in-laws, Clyde and Faye Clanton, who were strong mentors for him throughout his life.
After graduating from Valley High School in 1968 and Opelika Technical College in 1970, he went on to pursue a career in electronics, to which he dedicated himself for many years. Tim became a jack-of-all-trades during his adult life. In addition to his electronics, he was also a painter, carpenter, and mechanic in his early years. He later became well-versed as a salesman with many companies, with his last position with Knology, Inc., was as an account executive, where he was instrumental in helping to establish the KIA plant in West Point, GA. After his retirement in 2016, Tim and Marie focused on traveling, attending Gaither concerts, and gathering with family whenever possible. One of his favorite sayings was “booG si efiL” (backwards for “Life is Good”) that became a family motto on many of these occasions. Life was good whenever Tim was around.
A loving husband to Marie since 1970, Tim was a pillar of strength and support for his family. Together, they raised two children: Stacey and Chad. He was a devoted father, always there to offer guidance, love, hugs, and a hearty laugh to them and their friends. He cherished family gatherings, and his presence at holidays and celebrations brought warmth and joy to those around him. He had many passions in life, but none were more important to him than his grandchildren. They all made him so proud to be their Papa. Tim was also known for his honesty, dependability, loyalty, encouragement, friendship, and bright smile. He also loved all animals and was kind to every creature that crossed his path. Most importantly, Tim was a strong Christian man who placed his belief in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, above all else. He was honored to be ordained as a deacon at the family’s home church, Friendship Christian Church, in Riverview.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Marie Clanton Bailey, his children, Stacey Shaver (Gary) and Chad Bailey (Gina), and grandchildren: Bailey Fucci (Anthony), Bryant Shaver, Ayden Smith (Zac), Conner Bailey, and Cooper Bailey. He is also survived by his brothers-in- law and sisters-in-law, Barry and Diann Clanton, Sammy and Diane Osborne, and Jack and Denise Bledsoe, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.
A memorial service to celebrate Tim’s life will be held on October 30, 2025, at Johnson Brown Funeral Home, located in Valley, AL, at 1:00 ET, with visitation at noon on the same day. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Friendship Christian Church, 1101 California Road, Valley, AL 36854, in Tim’s memory.
Rest in peace, Papa. Your memory and legacy will live on in our hearts forever. “How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”
