Kathleen A. Cotney, affectionately known as “Kaky” to family and friends, passed away peacefully at her home in Wadley, Alabama, at the age of 94.
Ms Cotney was born in 1931 in Bessemer, Alabama, to Joe H and Katie Sims Allen. She moved with her family to Chambers County in 1944, where she spent the remainder of her life and became a familiar and trusted presence in the community.
Kathleen was a devoted housewife and mother, placing her family at the center of her life. She worked for two years at the sewing plant in Daviston before beginning a long and dedicated career at the Bank of Wadley, where she retired from after 37 years. Her commitment, reliability, and friendly demeanor left a lasting impression on coworkers and customers alike.
She was a faithful member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church, where her faith guided her life and relationships.
Kathleen is survived by her 4 children, James Ray Cotney Jr. (Sherry) of Wadley, Janice McGill (Phillip) of Wadley, Mark Cotney of Wadley, and Lou Ann Tapley of Panama City, FL; eight grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters – Mary Jim Allen, Joe Ann Allen, and Carolyn Pearce, and son, Arnold Allen Cotney.
Kathleen will be remembered with love for her dedication to her family, her steady work ethic, and her quiet faith. Her legacy lives on through the many generations who were blessed to call her mother, grandmother, and friend.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday January 21, 2026, at the Daviston Baptist Church Cemetery in Daviston, AL at 11 a.m. CST with Brother Jimmy Sprayberry officiating.
