Before his passing, Jo-Jo witnessed heaven welcome precious family members before him, including his son Albert Fannin, his grandchildren Megan Nicole Fannin and Whitney Brooke Short, his parents Evelyn Peacock and Rufus Fannin, and siblings Fred Fannin, Mary Rodriguez, and Martha Van Houten.

A pillar of his community, Jo-Jo was a fervent member of the Oasis Christian Center in Smiths Station, Alabama.
