May 25, 1945 ~ May 16, 2025 (age 79)

Joene Rains Hall, fondly known as Miss Jo, left this world for her heavenly home on May 16th, 2025, at the age of 79, in Lanett, Alabama. Born on May 25th, 1945, in Lake, Mississippi, her life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and faith, which she upheld every day.

Miss Jo’s journey began as a daughter to her father, Carl Rains, and parents, Bill and Johnnie Ruth Keys. She immersed herself in a life filled with joys, challenges, and the warmth of a close-knit family. Her story would not be complete without the love she found with her husband, Henry Hall, who preceded her in death, as did her beloved grandchildren, Peggy and Shane Hurst.

The legacy Miss Jo leaves behind is rich with the bonds of family, as she is survived by her daughters, Kim Cook, Judy Ruddock, and Betty (Gene) Veach; her son, George Hall; and a host of grandchildren who filled her life with laughter and memorable moments: Derek (Jayme) Cook, Kendall (Bradley) Curley, Scott Ruddock, Mark (Jill) LaPlante, Denise (Randy) Gross, Paul (Rhonda) LaPlante, George (Tonia) Hall Jr., Juanita Hall, Chris Hall, Melody (Ashlee) Baker, Kaine (Lauren) Ruddock, Kim Rose, Skyler Maranville, Hazel Curley, Zach Daniel, and Sophia Daniel. The constellation of her family extends to include sixteen vivacious great-grandchildren who will carry her spirit into the future.

Integral to her community, and cherished by her friends, Miss Jo counted Rosie Gasaway and Maryly Chappell among her special confidants, and her extended circle of compassion reached out to include numerous nieces and nephews. Through these meaningful connections, she established a network of mutual support and unconditional love that enriched her life.

Miss Jo found serenity in the pages of her devotions and Bible, with which she started each day with hope and reflection. Her passion for engaging storytelling found a home in her favorite TV shows “Murder She Wrote” and “In the Heat of the Night,” which she enjoyed immensely. Not only did she adore her grandchildren, but she also found comfort and joy in her time with her grand dog, Bruiser, and her cat, Beauty, whose companionship never failed to bring a smile to her face.

Described by those who knew her best as loving, kind, and faith-filled, Miss Jo embodied these attributes through her every action and interaction. Her unwavering commitment to her beliefs, her generous spirit, and her capacity for empathy defined her character. Whether offering a kind word or sharing her wisdom, she left her mark on every soul she encountered.

Her warm presence will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know her. As her family navigates this world without her physical presence, they take solace in knowing that her spirit and the lessons she imparted will forever remain in their hearts. Miss Jo’s life was a shared journey of love and faith – a journey that everyone who knew her had the privilege to embark upon alongside her.

In celebrating the life of Joene Rains Hall, we honor the woman who brought us all together, who showed us the beauty of a life well-lived. With gratitude, we embrace her enduring impact and hold onto the cherished memories that will forever be a guiding light in our lives.
