Recent high winds have caused some flower arrangements and memorial items at the city cemetery to become displaced, particularly those not secured in approved holders. City staff responded promptly and made every effort to collect and safeguard items that were blown from headstones, with care and respect for the families they represent.

Families who find that flowers or decorations are no longer on their loved one’s headstone are welcome to visit the cemetery office to identify and reclaim any recovered items. Staff will be available to assist during regular business hours.
The City of Opelika appreciates the community’s understanding and cooperation as we work to maintain the cemetery’s appearance and honor those laid to rest. We also encourage families to ensure future arrangements are properly secured to help prevent displacement during inclement weather.
