Henrietta Bonds Mitchell, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024, in Opelika, AL, at the age of 75. Born on March 17, 1949, in Jacksonville, AL.

Henrietta lived a life marked by adventure, intelligence, and an unwavering love for her family. Henrietta’s early years in Jacksonville laid the foundation for a life filled with joy and determination. Her journey took her from the memories of Heflin, Alabama, through to Gadson, Alabama, where she established her roots and embraced the community.

Henrietta’s career as a dedicated Production Worker at Uniroyal spanned many years, where she not only contributed to the workforce but also became an active and passionate member of the Union.

Her retirement did not slow her down; instead, it gave her the freedom to pursue her many interests. Henrietta was fiercely independent and took great pleasure in spoiling her grandchildren, a testament to her loving nature.

She was an avid traveler, always ready for a new adventure, and found joy in the simple pleasures of cooking and gathering with family.

Henrietta’s intelligence shone through in everything she did, from her strategic involvement in the Union to the wisdom she imparted to her loved ones.

Her adventurous spirit was contagious, inspiring those around her to explore and embrace life’s possibilities.

She is preceded in death by her three sisters and her brother, Doyle Cannon. Henrietta’s legacy lives on through her cherished family.

She was a beloved mother to Jerry Mitchell (Angela), Keith Mitchell (Mechell), and Melissa Mitchell Smith. Her role as a grandmother was one she held dear, leaving behind fond memories for Megan Tomlinson (Stephen), Mallory Poe (William), Gracen Mitchell (Ashley Squires), Joshua Mitchell, Justin Mitchell (Abby Gess), Shaylee Jones, and Ashley Nicole Wilbanks (Peyton). Henrietta was also a proud great-grandmother to Payson Wilbanks, Piper Wilbanks, Nathan Wilbanks, Maddison Wilbanks, Walker Squires, Aubree Squires, Mason Squires, and Asher Squires. Each of these children brought immense joy and pride to her life. Her sister-in-law, Nancy Cannon, along with a host of nieces and nephews, will also hold Henrietta’s memory close to their hearts.

Henrietta Bonds Mitchell will be remembered as a woman of great character, someone who lived her life with enthusiasm and grace.

Her love for her family was unparalleled, and the bonds she formed with each person were unique and strong. She was the matriarch who led by example, showing kindness, resilience, and a zest for life that will continue to inspire her family and all who knew her.
