It is with a great sense of admiration and respect that we announce the peaceful passing of Harvey Joe Smith, lovingly known as Papa Joe, who departed this life on December 11, 2025, at the age of 80, in his hometown of Valley, Alabama. Born on February 13, 1945, Harvey’s rich and fulfilling life is celebrated today as we remember him.

Harvey’s enduring love for his family was evident to all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy in his sons, Bradley Summer Roberts) Smith, Kevin (married to Ashley) Smith, and stepsons David (DeeDee), Keith (Kim), and Michael Hadaway; his cherished daughter Angie (married to Carroll) Guess; and his brother, Tony (Gina) Smith. His legacy extends through the generations, encompassing numerous adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom he loved dearly. The family will cherish the memories of Harvey’s warmth, love, and kindness.

Harvey was predeceased by his beloved wife, Janice Smith, and his parents, Bruce and Helen Smith, as well as his brothers Jerry Smith and Ronnie Smith. The bond he shared with each of them remains an integral part of the family’s history and memories.

An avid Alabama fan, Harvey’s passion for sports was second only to the love he had for his family. He relished every opportunity to cheer on his beloved team and enjoyed the camaraderie that came with being part of the Crimson Tide community. In equal measure, his love for the Atlanta Braves was a testament to his enduring spirit as a fan, dedicated through every season’s high and low.

However, it was music that stirred Harvey’s soul, as he indulged in playing and listening to melodies that resonated with his kind-hearted nature. Those who knew Harvey will fondly recall his musical talent and the joy it brought to family gatherings and friendly get-togethers.

A man revered for his loving and kind nature, Harvey’s positive impact on his community and the lives he touched cannot be overstated. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his infectious enthusiasm for life, and his ability to find happiness in the simplest of pleasures.

Today, we honor Harvey Joe Smith. As his story concludes in this world, his melody lingers, a sweet and harmonious legacy that will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts of those who loved him. Harvey’s life, a symphony of love and kindness, now plays on in the memories we hold dear. Rest in peace, dear friend, father, and brother. Your song endures.
