Elbert Lewis Sanders, a cherished soul and the family’s beloved “Paw Paw,” passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, at the age of 84 in Valley, Alabama. Born on April 7, 1941, in Randolph Co, Alabama, Elbert’s life was a testament to the joy and laughter that he brought to all who knew him. His early years in Alabama bore witness to the establishment of a man of character, poised to make an indelible impact on his community and loved ones. Also, a lifetime member of Harrington Heights Methodist Church.

Elbert’s professional endeavors were as steadfast and reliable as the man himself. For many years, he dedicated his skills to the textile industry, notably at Mountville Mills for 25 years in Lagrange, Georgia. His commitment to his work was second only to his dedication to his beloved family, which remained the cornerstone of his life until his final days.

The rich tapestry of Elbert’s life was interwoven with his unbridled passion for fishing and hunting, pursuits that not only provided solace and joy but also exemplified his deep appreciation for nature. His enthusiasm for life extended to his active participation in the senior games, where he exhibited both competitive spirit and camaraderie.

Elbert’s zest for life was paralleled by the love he had for his family, particularly the delight he derived from his role as a doting grandfather. He reveled equally in the warmth of family gatherings and in the harmless teasing of his nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and nephews earning him the affectionate and humorous title of “Uncle UGLY” – a moniker he wore with pride.

Kind and funny, Elbert’s legacy is immortalized in the echoes of laughter he left behind and the cherished memories shared with those he loved. He is predeceased by his parents, Earnest and Irene Sanders; in-laws, Virgil and Dora Bolt; siblings, Baby Brother Sanders, Paul Sanders, Charles (Marjorie) Sanders, Lynwood (Betty) Sanders, Nina (James) Harper, Morris Sanders; and his infant son (1962).

Elbert’s love continues to flourish through his devoted wife, Diane B. Sanders; his son, Timmy Sanders and his wife April; his granddaughters, Ali Sanders, Jaymie Bailey Chapman, and Kinley Davis; his brother, Ben (Margaret) Sanders; his caring nephew, Andy Harper; Barbara Sanders, his special sister-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews, along with grand nieces and nephews who will forever cherish his memory.

Elbert Lewis Sanders lived a life marked by an outpouring of love, a knack for making others smile, and a heart full of devotion. His was a life lived fully, love given freely, and a legacy that will warmly be remembered. While he has cast his final line into the tranquil waters of eternity, his spirit remains a beacon of joy and kindness in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Funeral services for Elbert will be held on Saturday, November 22nd, 2025, at 11:00 AM (EDT) at the Johnson Brown-Service Chapel in Valley, Alabama. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Lanett, Alabama. Pastor Andy Harper will officiate. Mr. Elbert’s family will receive friends for visitation Friday, November 21st, 2025, at 6:00 to 8:00 PM (EDT).
