October 5, 1932 ~ February 25, 2026 (age 93)

Carol Powers was born on October 5, 1932, in Tampa, Florida to Edward E. and Doris E. King. At approximately 6 months old, she and her parents moved to Toledo, Ohio, where she was raised.  She graduated from DeVilbiss High School in Toledo and went to work for Toledo Scales.

Carol married Paul S. Powers in April of 1956, within a year of meeting him on a blind date in Norfolk, Virginia.  By 1957, they had moved to Toledo, Ohio, where they began their family.  Over the years, they moved from Toledo to Detroit, Michigan, back to Toledo, Circleville, Ohio, then to Birmingham, Michigan, eventually having five children.

In 1972, they moved to Opelika, Alabama, and in 1978, Carol bought a children’s clothing store (Turner’s Corner) which eventually became the Classy Clown in downtown Opelika. After several years, she closed her business and began working for Paul in his business ventures.

Carol was a great blessing to her husband, children and grandchildren.  She was always ready for her family to come for a visit, frequently preparing big meals and ready to keep grandchildren when she could.  She was involved in many aspects of her church until she was no longer able to.

Carol is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Paul and her son-in-law, Hays McKay, Jr.

Carol is survived by her children: Mara Powers McKay, Dothan, Alabama; Beth Powers Barks (Allen); Paul (Bo) Powers, Jr. (Janet); Gretchen Powers Hood (Kenneth), all of Opelika, Alabama; and Rory Powers, Brooklyn, New York.  She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Hays (Trey) McKay, III (Christina), Mary Carol Barks Howell (Chris), James Barks, Holland Powers Daniel (Taylor), Paul (Tripp) Powers, III (Kayla), Lindsey McKay Snellgrove (Quinton), Matthew Barks, and Turner Powers.  She is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren.

Carol was a wife of noble character, worked with eager hands, she provided food for her family, went about her work vigorously, her children arise and call her blessed, “’Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.’ Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.”  Proverbs 31
