On May 30th, Director Kenneth W. Boswell and Deputy Director Ashley Toole of Alabama Department of Community Affairs (ADECA) made a visit to the City of Lanett at the invitation of Mayor Jaime Heard.
The Mayor wanted the Director to see firsthand the needs of Lanett. Also Chris Busby (Executive Director of Chambers County Development Authority) informed the Director of the needs for utilities at the Mill site on Hwy 29. Mayor Heard provided a tour of the City pointing out the many needs for the citizens of the City.
Director Boswell ask for the City to apply for a master plan grant to start the process on cost of projects and which grants would be needed to make the improvements for Lanett. ADECA can help with charging station for School Buses if they are awarded the electric bus grant from the Federal Government.
Other grants for water/sewer, recreation needs, low income home energy upgrades, and many more to help the citizens.
Mayor Heard told the director he will send in the request for the planning grant before the July deadline so the City can start moving forward for all the citizens of Lanett. He also personally thanked him and his assistant for coming to Lanett.
