On Monday, just after 5 PM EST, West Point firefighters responded to a structure fire at a small apartment complex located in the 700 block of Avenue E near East 8th Street. The West Point Fire Department, with assistance from Troup County and Lanett fire departments, immediately began extinguishing the flames at the 12-unit apartment complex. The efforts to control the fire continued throughout the evening and into the overnight hours.
“We can confirm that the fire was brought under control, and no major injuries were reported,” said West Point Fire Chief Derrick Staley.
According to the American Red Cross, which was on the scene, ten families were affected by the fire and have been displaced. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
