January 17, 1963 ~ December 21, 2025 (age 62)

Martin Scott Sanders, affectionately known as “Scotty” to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2025, at the age of 62. Born on January 17, 1963, in Valley, Alabama, he was a lifelong resident of the town he loved. Scotty’s warmth, generosity, and joy for life touched many and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Scotty is survived by a close-knit and loving family, including sons, Garrett (Megan) Sanders and Logan Sanders; brothers, Todd Sanders and Brandon (Leigh) Sanders; stepfather, Jere Copeland; stepmother, Anne Sanders; aunts, Julia Gauntt and William (Marian) Miller; uncle, Keith Moore and Jimmy Simpler; adored grandchildren, Olivia Sanders and Jaxon Sanders; his cherished pet, Shady; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will fondly remember his caring nature and storytelling.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Sanders and Charlotte Copeland, his sister, Lisa Yates, aunt, Miriam Hoyt and his lifelong friend, Mike Castell. They played significant roles in his life, and though they left before him, the influence they had on Scotty, and the memories they shared, are everlasting.

Scotty’s passion for hunting and fishing was well-known, and it was in the great outdoors that he found his greatest peace and contentment. He was happiest sitting by a lake or wandering through the woods. Scotty’s love for nature was second only to his love for his family.

The void left by Scotty’s departure will be deeply felt, especially during the cherished moments spent around the dinner table during holidays, or on quiet evenings sharing stories and laughter with his family.

A memorial service in remembrance of Scotty will be held at Fairview Baptist Church on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at 3:00pm Eastern.
