Opelika, Ala. — August 12, 2025 — The East Alabama Regional Training Association is proud to announce that the Tunnel to Towers 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit is coming to Opelika the week of September 10–16, 2025 — marking its first-ever stop in Alabama, and its arrival will coincide with the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

A powerful tribute to the lives lost and the heroism displayed on September 11, 2001, the exhibit serves as a mobile education center honoring America’s fallen first responders and military service members.

The exhibit will arrive on Wednesday, September 10, with a full police and fire escort through Opelika. The public is encouraged to witness this emotional entry at the Southern Union State Community College parking lot . The following day, on Thursday, September 11, a VIP Ceremony will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., featuring remarks from local and regional dignitaries, and first responders. A solemn wreath-laying ceremony will honor the victims and heroes of that fateful day.

“This is more than an exhibit — it’s a national memorial on wheels,” said Opelika Fire Chief Shane Boyd. “We are honored to host this tribute and bring it to the people of Alabama, especially on such a meaningful date.”

The 83-foot tractor-trailer transforms into a 1,100-square-foot exhibit featuring artifacts, interactive displays, and guided tours led by 9/11 first responders. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation developed the exhibit to ensure future generations never forget the events and sacrifices of September 11.

Details about the escort route, exhibit hours, parking, and volunteer opportunities will be made available on the City of Opelika’s website and social media platforms in the coming weeks.
