January 6, 1952 ~ July 7, 2025 (age 73)
Roger Dale Carroll, 73, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025, in Lanett, Alabama. Born January 6, 1952, in Langdale, AL, Roger lived life on his terms — with quiet strength, a deep appreciation for nature, and an unwavering loyalty to the people he cared about. Roger wasn’t one for a lot of fuss. He believed in showing up, working hard, and doing right by others — not for recognition, but because that’s just how he was raised.
He had a steady way about him, and if you knew Roger, you knew that when he spoke, it mattered. And when he didn’t, that probably mattered more.
He shared much of his life with his wife, Tammy Carroll, and leaves behind a family who will carry forward his spirit and sense of grounded purpose: his daughters Mandy Carroll Calhoun and Tamara Carroll (Bobby) Reaves, his grandchildren — Courtney Sims, Jessica (Corey) Buckner, Jetta (Diontez) Dunn, Kamdyn Oliver, Kenadie Oliver, Layla (Jacob) Moore, and Jessie Paige Moore — and nine great-grandchildren who brought him more smiles than he’d ever admit out loud. Roger is also survived by his sister, Janis Carroll (Bill) Jones. While life naturally created space between them over the years, the bond of family remained, and with it, a shared history that only siblings know.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Belvin H. and Helen Carroll; his brother, Donnie Hugh Carroll; his sister, Jean Carroll Morris; his stepdaughter, Natasha Moore Kent; and his longtime friend Rodney Dean.
Roger’s days were best spent outdoors — usually with a fishing pole, a hunting rifle, or a good dog at his side. He found peace along the banks of Veasey Creek, often in the company of his four-legged sidekick, Weenie. The two made quite a pair: one watching the water, the other pretending not to be asleep in the sun. His closest companion in all things outdoors was his lifelong friend, John Booker. The two shared decades of early mornings, muddy boots, quiet hunts, and the kind of friendship that doesn’t need explaining. If Roger wasn’t with family, chances are he was somewhere in the woods with Booker — or at least planning the next trip. Roger didn’t make a big show of things, but he lived with quiet conviction and gave more than he ever asked for.
He didn’t talk much about what mattered — he lived it. And if you were paying attention, you learned a thing or two just by being around him.
As we remember Roger Dale Carroll, we do so with deep respect and a few well-earned smiles. He left behind stories, footprints, and a legacy of grit, heart, and the kind of wisdom that doesn’t need a microphone. His life was a steady current — not flashy, but strong, lasting, and always moving in the right direction. He’ll be missed by many — and remembered well by all.
A memorial service will be communicated at a later date.
