Dolores “Dee” Steen Hamm, age 78, of Lanett, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama.

Born on June 8, 1947, in Alexander City, Alabama, Dee was the daughter of the late Lathing Thomas Steen and Mary Odell Nolen Steen. She was the beloved wife of the late Kenneth E. Hamm, with whom she shared fifty-eight years of marriage, and a devoted mother to her daughter Paula Davis and son-in-law Tommy. Her heart was fullest in the company of her grandson, Jacob Morris, whose presence brought her endless joy. In her later years, Dee served as a devoted caregiver to her husband Kenneth, lovingly supporting him through his illness.

Dee is survived by her brother, Douglas Steen (Mona), along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, and her siblings Loretta McCollough, Helen Steen, George Steen, Alice Courtney, Glennie Gorham, Margie Davis, and Wanda Steen.

Dee was the proud owner and operator of Dee’s Doll House Beauty Shop in downtown Lanett for over twenty years. She later retired from Central Alabama Community College in Childersburg, Alabama, where she served as a dedicated Cosmetology Instructor. Her commitment to education was equally remarkable—she pursued her studies at Southern Union and Athens State University before earning her master’s degree in education from Auburn University. Dee had a gift for conversation and a heart for people—she loved talking with family and friends and never met a stranger.

Dee will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her dedication to her family, and her lifelong love of learning. Her kindness and strength leave a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who knew her.
