WEST POINT—On Tuesday, the City of West Point hosted its annual Black History Celebration Program, honoring the past while recognizing the future from the West Point Gym in front of a large gathering.

           

Hollywood rising star  Jahi Di’Allo Winston was this year’s Keynote Speaker. Winston, a Troup County native is known for his incredible performances in films like We Have a Ghost, Charm City Kings, Queen & Slim, and The Upside, as well as hit TV series like Everything Sucks! and The New Edition Story.

Winston shared his journey, insights, and the impact of Black history on the world of film and beyond.

Local students from schools in Troup and Chambers County were also recognized during the program followed by remarks from West Point City Councilman Joel Finlay who presented Johnny’s Pizza owner Ben Hamilton with a plaque of appreciation.

Afterwards, West Point Councilman  Kevin Patrick presented Copper Carrot owners Larry and Nicky Franklin with an award for their commitment to community.

The program concluded with the singing of the Black National Anthem, Lift Every Voice and Sing.
