On Thursday, the Lanett Fire Department responded to W.O. Lance Elementary regarding an incident at the school. Lanett City Schools Superintendent Jennifer Boyd and Safety Coordinator Clifford Story issued a press release on the matter.

“We regret to inform you that earlier this afternoon, a utility power surge caused damages to our newly repaired heating system, resulting in a shutdown of the entire system.

Based on forecasts for cold weather tomorrow, we believe that it is safest for students and staff to remain home where they will have access to adequate heating. Therefore, W.O. Lance Elementary School will be CLOSED tomorrow, February 21. Lanett Junior High and Lanett High School students will attend school as usual”, said Lanett City Schools in a press release.

During this closure, Lanett City staff commits to assessing and resolving any campus issues caused by the utility power surge.

“Please note, as with any school closure, school make-up day guidelines apply. We greatly apologize for any inconvenience as we take these necessary measures to ensure that students and staff are safe”, added Lanett City Schools.
