Johnny Whitten, age 80, of Beauregard, Alabama, passed away on August 20, 2026, at Bethany House in Auburn, Alabama.
Born on February 14, 1946, in Randolph County, Alabama, Johnny lived a life marked by kindness, quiet strength, and devotion to the people and places he loved. He was known by family and friends simply as Johnny, and he carried himself with the steady, thoughtful manner that so many came to appreciate over the years. Intelligent, friendly, and thoughtful, he left a lasting impression on those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Johnny was a man of Christian faith, and his beliefs were an important part of the life he lived. He valued honesty, humility, and the simple blessings of each day. In his younger years, he was an avid deer hunter, and he also enjoyed fishing from time to time. One of his greatest pleasures was working in his garden, where he found peace in tending the earth and watching things grow. These interests reflected the patient and steady nature that defined him throughout his life.
He is survived by his children, Shane Whitten and his wife Tabby, Johnett Brown and her husband Ben, Lisa Tidwell and her husband Cash, Jim Richardson and his wife Angie, and Dane Richardson and his wife Dena. He also leaves behind a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him great joy and who will carry forward his memory with love and gratitude. His family was a source of pride and comfort to him, and he treasured the time he spent with them.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Jackson and Ava Whitten, and by his siblings, Earnestine Williams, Roger Whitten, Gail Ashworth, and Raymond Whitten. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life, and he now rests in eternal peace reunited with those who went before him.
Those who knew Johnny will remember a man who was dependable, warm, and sincere. He had a way of making others feel welcome, and his presence brought reassurance and calm. Whether he was sharing a conversation, spending time outdoors, or simply enjoying the company of family, he did so with a genuine spirit that will not be forgotten.
