On Monday, the Lanett Council held a special called meeting at City Hall.
“The first thing we have on the agenda is the potential flight school at the Lanett regional airport”, said Mayor Jamie Heard.
District 3 Councilman Brad Lynn echoed Heard’s remarks with enthusiasm, stating that the Aspire flight school will be operating under FAA regulations, with flight instructors teaching basic flying.
“Aspire Aviation uses up-to-date equipment, and their instructors are very experienced with 40 employees with an average of six to eight people in one aircraft.
Eventually, they hope to add a complete maintenance flight school with numerous aircrafts”, said Lynn.
The demand for pilots now is great, and as you know the city of Auburn has taken advantage of that by expanding their flight schools to almost near capacity.
So we’re fortunate to have our current flight school right now that’s out there.
They will also provide us with a certificate of insurance, name of the city and or airport is additionally insured, which is standard for our airport operations”, added Lynn.
