LaFayette- During Monday’s Chambers Commission meeting, County Engineer Josh Harvill presented the proposed five-year transportation plan.
According to Harvill, this plan will improve the quality of life for Chambers County citizens by selecting transportation projects that supports safer roadways, economic development, and stronger communities.
“You are presented with a proposal to adopt a five-year transportation plan for Cambers County, covering the years 2027 to 2031. This plan establishes a vision, outlines four key goals, and details several proposed projects.
I will begin by reading the vision statement along with the four goals. After that, the list of projects will be provided for your review. Additionally, I will summarize the total miles involved in the projects. All the project details, along with the presentation, will be available on our website later this week.
The vision of the five-year plan is to enhance the quality of life for the residents of Chambers County by selecting transportation projects that support safer roadways, promote economic development, and strengthen communities. To achieve this vision, we have established four goals:
1. To reduce fatalities and serious injuries by 5% annually by the year 2035.
2. To improve the overall road condition index to 80 for the county’s 435 miles of paved roadways.
3. To develop a gravel improvement program.
4. To reduce the number of posted bridges in the county, which currently stands at 18.
The list of projects includes several bridge improvements and encompasses a total of 170 miles of road enhancements over the next five years. I propose that the Commission adopt this plan as presented. So moved, read Harvill.
Afterward, the Commissioners voted in favor of the proposal.
In other news from the Chambers County Commission, commissioners approved the following resolutions:
– Ms. Lucy Royster was appointed to the Chambers County Library Board of Trustees for a four-year term, expiring in 2030.
– Jake Thomas was appointed as the Chambers County Safety Coordinator to assist with loss prevention efforts and ensure compliance with safety rules and regulations that protect the well-being of the county, its employees, and the general public.
