OPELIKA, Ala. –On Friday, April 17, at approximately 1:41 a.m., Opelika Police Dispatch received multiple calls reporting a large fight and shots fired outside of the Wild Wing Cafe located at 3040 Capps Way.
Upon arrival, responding officers observed a vehicle fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed and immediately attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop, leading officers on a brief pursuit. Officers were eventually able to bring the fleeing vehicle to a halt on Interstate 85 near mile marker 61, where they detained five individuals for questioning.
Around the same time, an individual arrived at East Alabama Medical Center seeking treatment for a gunshot wound. Officers responded to the hospital and identified the victim, who was interviewed but ultimately declined to press charges regarding the incident.
During the subsequent investigation at Wild Wing Cafe, officers located a red Dodge Charger in the parking lot that had sustained multiple bullet holes. Officers determined the registered owner was the victim at the hospital.
Additionally, officers searching the pursuit route on Interstate 85 located and recovered a firearm near mile marker 60. Investigators believe the weapon was discarded from the suspects’ vehicle during the chase.
Following the initial investigation, three of the five individuals in the vehicle were charged:
Devante Goodman, 28, from Auburn, was charged with Felony Attempting to Elude.
Ashton Williams, 19, from Auburn, was charged with Minor Consumption of Alcohol.
Stephen Harris, 26, from Auburn, was served with an outstanding warrant through the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
