Tedd Lee Nelson was born in Oakland, California, on September 27, 1943, to the late Kenmore and June Nelson. He passed away on April 6, 2026, at his residence in Opelika, Alabama, with his wife by his side. He was 82 years old.
Tedd grew up in Miami, Florida, graduated from Mississippi College, and then received a Master of Religious Education from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He also received a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Louisville.
Tedd lived an adventurous life of hiking the Appalachian Trail, participating in numerous mission trips, assisting with many years of disaster relief through North Carolina Baptist Men, and serving over 40 years as a licensed, clinical social worker. His work as a LCSW included inpatient and outpatient mental health facilities, South Carolina Department of Corrections on death row, private practice, church counseling, Assistant Administrator at the Florida State mental health facility, and counseling with those in disaster areas while on mission trips. His favorite times were deep-sea fishing, visiting Alaska and the Maine coast, spending summers in Door County, Wisconsin with his grandparents, and loving his dogs Smokey, Jasper, Zuzu, Winnie, and Bo.
Tedd is survived by his wife of 25 years, Carol Spivey Nelson; daughter. Debbie Brosey (Lyle) of Monticello, Florida; grandchildren, Harrison Sherwin (Sarah) of Denver, Colorado, Christine Hagenbeck (Corey) of Tallahassee, Florida, Matthew Sherwin of Denver, Colorado, and Eren Brosey of Denver, Colorado; great-grandchildren, Emma and Caroline Hagenbeck and Felicity Sherwin; brother, Bruce (Pat) Nelson of Florida; sister, Gayle Nelson of North Carolina; bonus son, Matthew (Laura) Miller of Morganton, North Carolina; and bonus grandchildren, Paige, Keaton, Hunter, Caroline and Marielle.
Tedd was truly a unique spirit. He is immensely loved and will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers the family would welcome donations to Woof Ave Rescue, 2514 South College St., Auburn, Alabama.
